Revitalized Medvedev Claims Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev won his first trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a former world number one, has endured a challenging year, winning just one win at the big events and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in especial - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-term mentor Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set win over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks the player's maiden title after the Rome competition and first on a hard court from March of that year.

Victory also means the Russian has won 21 championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my children at once, so to secure a title is really nice," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, featuring in Halle previously this season.

His counter-punching approach and regular reactions on the tennis court had led some to question if his capacity to play at the top level was concluded.

However the athlete has made changes in the past month, attempting to come to the net and compete assertively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult opponent, taking four of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his maiden professional championship, seized the initiative to create a final set.

He saved four initial opportunities in a close final set before the champion secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner clinched victory with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a return after a lengthy match.
